Background Checks and Summer Internships

Background Checks and Summer Internships

We cannot emphasize enough on the importance of background checks. They have their importance regardless of whether you are picking a lifeguard for a summer job at the beach or interviewing for the post of Vice President of a big company. What recruiters have to keep in mind is that even seasonal employees need to be checked out, regardless of the duration of employment.

Also, there are some fields where the need for background checks is essential, for instance in the financial sector, healthcare sector, childcare and education.
Background checks for seasonal/temporary jobs are so important that interns applying to the Penn State College of Education require mandatory background checks. The “Pennsylvania Acts 33 and 34 require that prospective employees of agencies serving children or working with public and private schools present evidence to a potential employer or internship site of any criminal record with the State Police, or a statement from the State Police that such a record does not exist.”

So, even if you are hiring many Santa Clauses for the holiday season or a nanny for the summer, it is important that you know everything about the people you are hoping to trust.
